Philosophy
A Tradition-Rooted Approach
Andy Farber has built a distinguished parallel career as an educator, shaping the next generation of jazz composers and arrangers. At The Juilliard School, he teaches Jazz Composition and Arranging, and leads the Juilliard Jazz Reading Big Band — an ensemble focused on reading new music and compositions from the Juilliard Jazz library.
At SUNY Purchase College, Andy teaches jazz arranging. He also serves as a director and mentor in the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop, where he guides emerging writers in developing large-ensemble craft, from big-band orchestration to contemporary compositional techniques.
